Description

To replace the Corniche saloon Rolls Royce had two choices, ‘Corinthian’ or ‘Camargue’. Continuing with the tradition of naming vehicles stating with the letter ‘C’ the Camargue was born. Throughout its 11-year production 75 % of this was exported, the USA being the best and most popular market, 146 cars were sent which included 12 special models.

To celebrate the end of production 12 special edition vehicles were made all of which went to American owners. The interior showcased Rolls Royce’s most hight tech entertainment system of its time. The driver and passengers enjoyed a combined radio and cassette player both complimented by a graphic equaliser shared with a CD player. The vehicle is fitted with ultra sonic reversing aids, this unit is fitted on the rear parcel shelf with a light system which can be seen from the rear-view mirror. The colour light system uses amber and red to indicate how close you are to an obstruction and the intermittent tone aids to an extremely relaxed driving experience.

Along with its high-tech instruments, the interior showcased an extremely special hide called Nuella. Developed by Connolly Leather LTD exclusively for the Camargue. Scarlett Nuella covered the interior of the vehicle, the seats are finished with white piping to match the exterior, acrylic white with a matching white everflex roof.

This Camargue in question was exported from Crewe in October 1986 to New Jersey, USA. Soon after it was delivered to Houston Texas where it’s new owner, Delma s Wadsworth Wills would enjoy it for years to come.

The vehicle came back to the UK in 2015, upon its return it was brought to us and underwent a complete mechanical overhaul to ensure it was in full working order for its newest customer. The interior was cleaned and treated, bringing the vibrant Scarlett Nuella colour back to life. In 2016 the owner had this special vehicle delivered down to the south of France where minimal miles were done but the vehicle was still enjoyed in the sun.

When the decision was made to place the vehicle up for sale it was brought back to us in November 2023 for a full service and MOT ready for its new custodian to enjoy.
